In and outs of "Operation Blue Star"

“Operation Blue Star”, only the name represented the pleasant color. The result of the Operation Blue Star was the bitter part of the Indian history. Born in the violent year of 1947, Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale was the unfortunate spark of the biggest communal riots seen in India.

The khalisthan movement for a better and republic state for Punjab was still going on, opposing this were the Indian congress party, which was dominated by Indira Gandhi and her son Sanjay Gandhi. In 1977, Indira asked Sanjay to break the khalidad in the province of Punjab.

Sanjay looked upon someone, who could have set up rival fashion. In the list of 20 names, he was given, the new leader of the Akal Takht, Jarnal Singh Bhindranwale, in fact the strongest of them.

He was a saint, who was dedicated to his religion. When there was political turmoil, he was forced to be a revolutionary and a potential terrorist. He gradually became well known to his community, and people came to see him along with their kids seeking his blessings. He made Amritsar his strong hold and he turned out to be an intractable for the central and state government. The local police force never tried to take an action on him. He was out of their league.

When his authority was overwhelming, Rajiv Gandhi told him to surrender in an interview. As a reply Bhindranwale challenged Rajiv and government to take any measures possible on him. The reply for Rajiv Gandhi itself indicated that he was well equipped and looking forward for a combat.

The proceedings at Punjab provinces were seemingly dangerous for the Indira’s congress government. She gave the order to Commander General Kuldip Singh Brar to start "Operation Blue Star", which was to neutralize Bhindranwale and his militants. Bhindranwale was accused for storing a huge amount of weapons at Gurudwara in order to start a major armed uprising.

On June 1st, 1984, the Indian army started its conflict with Bhindranwale and other khalisthan militants. The army was first surprised by the firing from khalisthan militants with machine guns and militants had the upper hand because of the well known architecture of golden temple. The surprise package for Indian army continued when they came to encounter an attack from a rocket propelled grenade. Commander General Mr.Brar, had no idea these militants could have been so well equipped. After the incident, he came up with a dramatic plan and ordered his troop to enter the temple with tanks.
The most historical place for Sikhs was ransomed by both the sides. On 8th June 1984, Indian army was succeeded in their operation. The potential terrorist Bhindranwale was a martyr for the Sikhs.

The holiest place for Sikhs was wrecked, many innocents lost their lives. For a Sikh, it was an inexcusable incident, which shattered their religious faith and holy place. Beant Singh heard about the disaster. He swore himself to take life of Indira Gandhi. Beant Singh was one of the Gandhi’s favorite guards, whom she had known for ten years.

Despite of the opposition from many leaders of the same party to keep Sikhs as body guards, Indira chose Satwant Singh and Beant Singh to continue as her bodyguards. She wanted to display there was no hatred on Sikhs and somehow wanted to convince the community.

The tables were ready to turndown; Satwant Singh ensured to switch his shift and managed to be with Beant Singh during the assassination of the Indian prime minister.
On 31st October 1984, Indira was on her way to be interviewed by British Reporter.  In the middle of the walking path, Beant Singh shot her with 3 bullets from his 0.38 pistol and Satwant Singh joined the action with firing 30 bullets from his Sten gun into her.

The series of tragedy didn’t come to an end.  The worst part was about to hit, the revolt against Sikhs all over India started. There were more than 8000 deaths, including 3000 in Delhi. It is also said that Delhi police kept their eyes close, since it was pre-planned. All the Sikh men were killed brutishly.

There are many eye witnesses, who are still alive mourning for losing their family, kids, husbands etc., But, the accused have not got punished. Just for the sake, there has been lot of committees and commissions, which seemed like they were trying to provide justice for the Sikhs.

The CBI recently told the court that during the riot, Sajjan Kumar had said that “not a single Sikh should survive.”  The 2011 WiKiLeaks cable leaks revealed that the United States was convinced about the complicity of the Indian government ruled by the Indian National Congress in the riots, and termed it as “opportunism” and “hatred” of the Congress government against Sikhs.

Let’s pray for all those, who lost their life and for a placid INDIA.

Whats Up with WhatsApp !!!

Smartphone with an internet connection can make you take advantage of a mounting variety of downloadable apps, that allow you to send and receive messages, without incurring carrier charges.

Free text messages are not a big deal for smart phone users. In fact, the network providing companies have been sobbing and grudging about ruining the competition, and they’re even considering giving upon the old charge per usage plans that have long been an industry’s cash flow.

One such app is “WhatsApp”.

WhatsApp was built to be a “better SMS alternative”, according to the company’s website. WhatsApp uses the same internet data plan that you use for email and browsing. No wonder, if you have downloaded the WhatsApp application for free on your smart phone and you didn't have to pay any fee for that. You may be completely addicted to it, just like FB. What will happen after a year of free subscription?

To go on with the usage of app you have to pay them a subscription fee. May be 0.99$ for a year. It is less than a dollar, so most of us wouldn't mind. But when we see the stats, we can know the usage and users of WhatsApp.

Recapitulating the details of a recent Forbes.com post, WhatsApp is worth the price tag, to which it was quoted because: it will help the social network grow globally, it is the new SMS, and it will be desired by other companies and it “is the only app we've ever seen with higher engagement than Facebook itself,” according to Mark Zuckerberg.

Let’s have a look at the transaction on a basic level. WhatsApp sold for $19 billion. A few pages of codes, that is said to be an application on ur smart phone was bought for such a huge amount. Many of us give a thought like what all could we buy in $19 billion.

One can own all the Indian Premier League cricket teams. If you’re a football fan, it will make ur eyebrows raise along with goosebumps, because in that amount you can own franchise of Manchester United and Real Madrid together. Isn’t it Awesome???

But how does an app make money?

Just like other products, apps earn money when they are purchased. $.99 per purchase might not sound like a bulky wallet, but it adds up( angry Birds sells for $.99,). Then of course you look at an app like minecraft:pocket edition that sells for $6.99 and made $1 million in iOS app store revenue – on Christmas day alone.

The “freemium” model: even apps that are free to download make money. This freemium model allows users to download the app for free, but will then charge for extra features, lives, power-ups and other in-game resources. The trial-free versions attract you and your addiction is the prime factor for their source of income. When you upgrade the full version with a respective money value, it goes on adding up the revenue for the company.

Advertisements: you’ve probably noticed advertisements on your favorite apps. Just like ads in magazines, on TV etc., companies pay for their products and services to be seen with mobile apps.

WhatsApp earns $.99 per download on iOS and $.99 per year on other platforms. Even with a hefty user base, the company’s revenue might only be hundreds of millions of dollars. There is an immense, unfilled gap between hundreds of millions and $19 billion.

With 500 million users, comes an enormous opportunity for growth. The future forecasts and keeping the “most addicted app” out of the hands of the competitors, makes one of the most remarkable take over, commendable for the Facebook.

How to avoid nervous breakdown during exams ???

Most of us often get tensed and get on to our nerves during exams. The exams may be of a school level or a competitive exam, which might decide one’s job and future also. Getting nervous during the exams makes the situation even worst. Lacks of preparation, anxious about the results, not being in the exam hall in time are the common reason for the nervous breakdown.

Let’s see what all we can do to avoid it

Preparing from the first day...
It may be any kind of examination, but we will be having a gap of at least 4-6 months minimum from the day we take the exam to the actual examination day.

Rather than working our back off on the last moments, from the day 1 , if we spend a specific amount of quality time. We will be able to complete the portion sooner than we expected.

Studying daily at starting few days may be a tough task. When you make it as a routine, as days go on, even if you’re doing any other activities, your mind will drag you to study. In other words, your activity turns into habit. This can be the biggest advantage when you’re studying.

Doing exercises and a regular routine of physical activities.

“All work and no play, makes jack a dull boy”... These lines just cannot be denied. To focus and concentrate your body should allow you to do so. You need more strength to study for more time. If you won’t involve in any physical activity and just keep sitting with books. You will start feeling your muscles being dull and you feel lazy to do anything, which in the worst case you can turn lazy on your studies also. By adding physical activities in your routine, you can relax yourself, you will be stress free, healthy and your concentration increases.

Avoid anxiety
Framing goals is good. But, they have to be proper and definite. Aiming to get good mars is not at all bad, but aiming to get cent % will definitely lead to stairs of downfall. One should come out of “what if’s fantasy first.

What if I read well and won’t score well?
What if the paper is too tough to crack?
What if others score more than me?
What if I won’t get a job?
Rather than answering to the question which appear on the paper, these questions can screw your confidence and everything. Before even trying to make the attempt, thinking of a failure is disgraceful.

Time Table
“If you’re are failing to plan, then you’re planning to fail”. Planning is the first good step towards the exams. Dividing time for the respective subjects, topics etc., is very much important.
If you are good at mathematics and if u keep on solving the problems for the whole day, you are just making fool out of yourself. That is not an efficient way of studying. Dividing the study time equally for each subject, allotting more time for the topic, which u find hard, makes you balanced.

Taking tests in regular interval
Testing our preparation is a key factor before attempting an examination. By facing tests, we will come to know how much we remember, what are the topics we need to focus more?  if you’ve done wrong, you can rectify it before appearing in the examination.

Stop comparing with others
The worst culture in most of the people is comparing. He is the topper; I’m just an above average guy. It can turn bad for the both kind of people. For those who look others as superior, it can destroy the confidence within u. if you are having better marks than your previous attempt you have succeeded and you have every reason to celebrate it.

In the same case, the ones who look others as inferior should be more careful. You may be the topper of ur school or universities. When you are going for the higher level, you will meet the same level of yours, indeed most of them will be better than you.
So, you need to keep preparing and never give up on ur faith and marks.

Be happy with your efforts. When your efforts are sincere, then the results will make u smile. Believe in yourself. Never fear to attempt.

Open Android and Google’s Android ...

The significant dissimilarity that many appear to ignore or they are acknowledging now: Android is an open source. Any person can freely use the open source code to create an Android build and run it on any piece of hardware. If I wanted to implement android platform on an old phone or tablet assuming that, I knew how to do it – I could. So can you. This is exactly what handset makers in china have been doing. Taking the freely available AOSP, or Android Open Source Project, code and selling phones that run on it.

Amazon has been doing this for a few years till date. That Amazon Kindle Fire tablet runs the freely available version of Android. Amazon has built its own interface on top of Android and its own apps as well. We can browse the web with the Silk browser or check our Gmail with the Kindle email app.

But android phones, tablets or the open source android products cannot run Google’s own suite of apps, unless they are licensed. That means paying Google a fee for Gmail, Google Maps, Google Calendar and access to the Google Play Store. It also means that Google has authority over what devices can have such access through licensing. In other words, it can set minimum device requirements for licensing. Amazon is a perfect example of a company choosing not to license Google’s apps so it enjoys total freedom for its hardware design.

Let’s have a look at the software licensing. In the manner how Google licenses its mobile apps, Microsoft licenses Windows and Windows phone. Microsoft is paid by the companies to put the software on their devices. And Microsoft has minimum requirements for each, just as Google does.  We cannot run Windows Phone 8 on a device with a core processor.Microsoft requires a dual-core chip. The handset must have a GPS radio and a minimum of 512 MB of memory as well.

The reason for Microsoft to do this is identical as Google’s. To create a minimum common hardware denominator that guarantees a certain user experience. If Microsoft were to let budget handset makers put windows phone on cast-off hardware, it would make windows phone itself look like junk.

Android has indeed been open since 2008. And Google has had a licensing program for its android apps since that time. The program may have changed over time as the market matured, but that is to be expected. The major concern now is that reported details of Google Android app licensing is showing up. With irrespective of the reasons, many think that android is not an open source.

In 2010, mobile location company Skyhook accused Google over four patents and claimed that Google was not contending fairly by trying to push its own Wi-Fi location services on hardware partners. Internal documents later emerged showing that a Wi-Fi location database was integral to Google’s own Android strategy.

While incidents such as these do little to answer the question of Google’s own openness, the fact remains that Android itself is open to those who wish to build their own smart phones, tablets, watches or other devices.

Golf Simulator

There is no disappointment, a bad weather ruining your golfing plan your day off.

Favorably, if all the natural forces try to keep you away from playing golf, the virtual world with advanced technology will facilitate you in playing golf. Golf simulator is a computerized game of golf, designed to take off the real game.

Golf simulators come with high technical features that analyze your swing and use programmed models of real courses. Using RADAR and light sensors, they sense countless factors that go in your shot and swing.

Golf simulators utilize impartial screens and 3-D graphics. In essence, they are very close to the actual golf game.

Simulators can be used for making a swing, flawless. They can also be used for practicing for the upcoming tournaments.

Having a simulator, leaves the advantage on your side for practicing golf the whole-off season. Not only that, you can choose a specific hole that you need to work on, including the course of your choice. It permits you to play over the same course again and again.

Most of us will be willing to play on the venues like Arizona, Florida or any other stupendous course. It’s more than difficult to make it into all the courses.

With the help of simulator, we can play on the most excellent courses around the world, at anytime of the season or off-season.

With the advancement in the technology, it also allows you to see how far your swing is, and what all the steps needed to work on it.

Practice yields confidence, practice makes the things perfect and we can improve our game to a much better level using simulators.

Golf simulators are the tools, if one is looking to extend his season and improve his game.

It is a virtual world, you may not witness birds flying over your head, and you may not feel the breeze. But the benefits, enjoyment and skills, you attain from playing with golf simulators make you incredibly flawless on the course.

If there is anything required to be modified in the simulator, it must be the cost. Because of the developmental costs of the software and the high-tech requirements of the hardware, Golf simulator isn’t likely to show up as a gift, until there is some multimillionaire in your first circle. And even if it is, you will need a lot of space to utilize it effectively.

Manipal to Microsoft : Satya Nadella

The Tech Hulk Microsoft is in the saddle to name Indian-born Satya Nadella as new Chief Executive Officer, crowning the couple of months search for present CEO Steve Ballmer’s stand in. Currently, He is the executive vice president of Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise group, responsible for building and running the company’s computing platforms and cloud services.

Nadella’s father was an Indian Administrative Service officer, B.N.Yugandhar, who was a member of the Planning Commission under Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

He got his Bachelor’s degree from the Manipal University, Karnataka. After moving to US, he earned his master’s in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago Booth School Of Business.

Nadella has played vital role in bringing some of Microsoft’s most popular technologies, like its database, Windows server and developer tools, to the cloud, called Azure.

Nadella also helped Microsoft bring a cloud version of Microsoft Office to the cloud, Office 365. Microsoft says Office 365 one of its fastest growing products ever. Nadella, if he emerges as the chosen one, would be the only third CEO in Microsoft’s history after Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer.

As president of Microsoft’s server business, Nadella boosted revenue to $20.3 billion in the fiscal year through June, up from $16.6 billion when he took over in 2011. That unit became cloud and enterprise when Ballmer restored Microsoft’s structure in July to focus the company on devices and services.

The Microsoft Hyderabad development center campus is the corporation’s biggest facility outside the U.S. and the first one in India. We cannot just neglect the role of Satya Nadella, in this outstanding step of Microsoft in India.

He is well-regarded as an energetic, visionary top-level executive. He also has an advantage as an insider, that he completely understands Microsoft’s complex culture and layout, likely to be aware of its weak points as well.

Voice Recognition Devices

Voice recognition or speech recognition devices is the translation of spoken words into text. It is also known as “Automatic Speech Recognition”, “Speech to Text” or “STT”. Voice recognition programs do not actually understand speech; they only recognize a vocabulary of pre-programmed words.

Voice recognition is commonly used to operate a device, perform commands, or write without having to operate a keyboard, mouse, or press any buttons. They are often used to also detect from the wave lengths that a specific voice is speaking the words, like the driver of the car.

The term voice recognition refers to finding the identity of “who” is speaking, rather than what they are saying. It can be used to authenticate or verify the identity of a speaker as part of a security process.

Mobile devices are seen as ideal platform for using voice recognition- mainly because, when you’re using your smart phone, you can use your hands to do other things. Although smart phone processor power has advanced significantly, voice recognition still requires a great deal of heavy lifting and therefore Apple has chosen to use cloud technologies to offload to servers to do most of the processing.

The US military and several aerospace companies are researching the use of speech recognition to control an aircraft. In theory, this will be faster than using a joystick or wheel.

Types of Voice Recognition Systems

Speaker Dependent System - The voice recognition must be trained before it can be used. This often requires a user, who reads a series of words and phrases so the computer can understand the user’s voice.

Speaker Independent System – The voice recognition software recognizes most users’ voices with no training.

Discrete Speech Recognition – The user must pause between each word so that the speech recognition can identify each separate word.

Continuous Speech Recognition – The voice recognition can understand a normal rate of speaking.

Natural Language – The speech recognition not only can understand the voice but also return answers to questions or other queries that are being asked.

Benefits

Reduce Costs and Improve Efficiency
When voice technology is used for order picking procedures for example, there is no need to print paper picking lists because these lists are verbally communicated to the worker. Voice applications have proven to greatly reduce supply and labor costs by saving paper and reducing steps in various procedures.

Improves Warehouse Safety
When works are using voice technology there are not required to spend nearly as much time looking at and handling mobile devices. The “hands free and eyes free” operation provided by voice applications leads to less waste paper or label backing sheets, resulting in a cleaner and safer ware house.

Reduce training Procedures
New warehouse order pickers have found that voice directed tasks that are easier to learn and follow than interpreting a paper task. Training time is significantly reduced, and workers are able to adapt to new tasks quicker providing additional cost savings and ROI for voice technology.

Receive Fast ROI
Voice technology provides a realistic and fast ROI. When speech recognition is used for order picking for example, companies operating more than one picking shift will spread the cost out across all shifts and see a ROI of less than 6 months on average. Companies operating a single picking shift will see an ROI of approximately 1 year.

When speech recognition is implemented properly companies will obtain a valuable ROI from their voice recognition technology solution.

Disadvantages
  • Error rate is considerably high.
  • Recognition of words is slow.
  • Words sounding similar cannot be differentiated.
  • The system is not suitable for use in noisy places.
  • The software must be trained to recognize technical words.
  • Many people find it difficult to speak in a ‘writing’ style.

Because of their limitations and high cost, voice recognition systems have traditionally been used only in a few specialized situations. For example, such systems are useful in instances when the user is unable to use a key board to enter data because his or her hands are occupied or disables. Instead of typing commands, the user can simply speak into a headset. Increasingly, however, as the cost decreases and performance improves, speech recognition systems are entering the mainstream and are being used as an alternative to keyboards.

Voice recognition or voice activated applications have become buzzing concept in recent years. The idea that a person is able to speak into a microphone attached to a computing device and those words typed out used to be the stuff of science fiction and part of “Iron Man”, is now REALITY.

Small Scratch on FDI Debate !!!

Foreign Direct Investment is a direct investment into production or business in a country by an individual or a company of another country.

There is a rapid growth of population in developing countries after the Second World War. This increase in the population growth also has increased in gross domestic product, and thus income per capita has increased in most developing countries around the world. The war affected countries with complex problems with the other countries such as Haiti,Somalia and Niger do not show much of the increase in GDP per capita.

The types of FDI are

               Inward foreign direct investment

               Outward foreign direct investment

These both result in a net FDI in flow and “stock of foreign direct investment”, which is the cumulative number for a given period. Direct investment excludes investments through purchase of shares. FDI is one example of international factor movements.

FDI would allow India to secure into India, which would increase India’s capital base significantly high. If India can attract FDI in the big picture it’s nothing but positive things. China’s important growth factor was FDI.
Foreign investment was introduced by Manmohan Singh under Foreign Exchange Management act in 1991. As of now, it has become the keen issue for his government to take the disagreement with FDI by the other parties. India did not allow overseas corporate bodies [OCB] to invest in India. India imposes a protection on equality holding by foreign investors in various sectors, current FDI limit in aviation sector is maximum 49%.

Benefits of FDI:

  • It causes a flow of money into the economy which simulates economic activity.
  • Employment will increase, which in turn increases the revenue for the government.
  • It will make the domestic producers to work and give a better product efficiently.
  • The government of India experiencing increasing levels of FDI will have a greater impact at international summits as we have more stakeholders in it.
  • Farmers will have an advantage , when the supermarkets directly contact the famers thus eliminating the middleman.

Against FDI:

  • Inflation may increase slightly.
  • FDI in retail will drain out the country’s share of revenue to foreign countries, which may cause negative impact on India’s economy.

  • Supermarkets will establish their monopoly in the Indian market. Due to supermarkets fine tuning and higher accessibility they will be able to buy goods at lower prices and therefore will be able to sell at lower prices to consumers. This will result in closing of many small retailers.

  • Improper time of allowing FDI in retail in India because of lack of infrastructure.

Big business will monopolize their respective markets in India by destroying all small competitors, and then they will be in complete control of prices, so it will ultimately come at a cost. Also, after monopolizing, product quality will stop mattering, since all small businesses whose products competed in quality would be destroyed. Also, vegetables and fruits that will be imported from outside India will not be fresh and stale due to long distance transportation and constant refrigeration.

It is assumed that FDI will play a vital role in the core sectors as a source of capital, management, and technology in countries of transition economy. India has also opened up its economy and allowed many Multi-National Enterprises in the core sectors such as chemicals, transport, Power and Fuels.

It is also motivated by recent political developments in India following the opening of sectors like insurance and telecommunication with increased financial gap for the private players.

Foreign firms may have technology that India has not acquired. On the other hand FDI brings those technologies to India much quicker.

Top Smart Phone Apps of 2013

2013 was a year of smart phones.  More than 100 billion mobile apps were downloaded in this year throughout the world, with revenues from apps crossing the mark of $25 billion approximately. There is an increase of 44% in downloading of mobile apps compared to 2012. 90% of total apps downloads is accounted by Android and iOS apps.

It is hard to believe the facts which state that only 15% of Indians with smart phones have downloaded an app, with the majority of the users choosing the free version.  Indians have downloaded more than 1.5 billion mobile apps in 2013, which may reach the mark of 9 billion by 2015, if the downloads of app go in the current pace.
Let’s look at the top mobile apps of the year 2013.

With the users almost equal to the number of literates around the globe, this is the most popular app in all platforms.
People are so addicted that they need FB mobile app to keep posting everything, everywhere about them. This has also led to the discovery of new word “Selfie”. It is used by over 100 million users, and the usage on mobile platforms has witnessed a very .promising percentage compared to previous year.

It would not come under the category of exaggerating, if one tells that Google search is the universal search engine.  Hence Google search apps come as an inbuilt app on android platforms. The other mobile users also “Google” on the necessary topics. It is the second most downloaded app, where its usage is increased by 26%.

To install any applications on android OS, we need Google Play app. The default feature of this in android smart phones has made it the third top most celebrity status app. Since there is a increase in the android smart phones sale, even this app has rapid increasing figures which describes the popularity of the app.

When it is videos on the web, nothing else comes on mind rather than YouTube. Not only on the computers, on the smart phones also it has made the impact very effectively. Being next to Google in search engine position, it is able to manage to be in the top 4th app as most required and used app.

The domination of the Google doesn’t seem to end with a couple of apps. Google maps have been the prominent navigator for most of us and we are in a position to trust it completely rather than a localite of the specific location. It has been one of the app without which your phone wouldn’t be smart enough for your convenience.

Undoubtedly the best mailing platform on computers as well as smart phones. Gmail apps on smart phones with android and iOS platforms exceed 60 million users. its usage and popularity are increasing tremendously.

Facebook owned Instagram has a users of over 30 million in the year 2013, it is buzzing across northern part of Indian. Users are moving towards instagram rather than facebook because of the more secured feeling of sharing images with family and friends. It is the most dominant app when considered the percentage of growth. The users increased rate is about 66%, viral spread of the technology among youngsters is considered to be the reason for the success of the app.

Stocks

Stocks app was most used financial app in 2013. The wide spread of smart phones even among the financial sector users was the reason for 32% increase in the usage of the app.

If FB and Twitter are the two horses running a race for the trophy “the Social site with most users”, it would end in a photo finish. Trying to meet the user quantity as facebook, it is on the tail of the top 10 apps trying to catch others.
